Manchester City welcome Belgian outfit Club Brugge to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night as their UEFA Champions League fate hangs in the balance.
After no wins in their last four outings in the competition, three of which have ended in defeat for Pep Guardiola’s side, the aim this week is very simple; win and Manchester City will complete the league phase in a play-off position for the last-16.
Last time out it was yet more disappointment in the UEFA Champions League as Manchester City threw away a 0-2 lead at Paris Saint-Germain to concede four without response and lose 4-2 to Luis Enrique’s side in the French capital.
Form did pick up in the following match however, and as such City come into Wednesday night’s contests against Brugge off the back of a 3-1 comeback win over Chelsea in Premier League action.
City are well-aware of the situation that their opponents find themselves in this week, with Club Brugge unbeaten in their last 20 matches across competitions, making them somewhat favourites coming into the Etihad Stadium clash based off of recent results.
Oscar Bobb is on the verge of a return to on-field competitive match action for Manchester City and is in line to make that return against Club Brugge, Arsenal, or Leyton Orient across the next three games.
Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Rodri, and Jeremy Doku remain the sidelined first-team stars as they recover from varying injury problems sustained in recent weeks, with Pep Guardiola suggesting that the latter could be out for “a while” during a recent press conference.
Ahead of the confirmed team news from the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening, some initial information has began to filter throughout social media from journalists and sources regarding Manchester City’s starting line-up.
According to the information of The Athletic’s Sam Lee, both Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones are part of Pep Guardiola’s confirmed starting line-up to face Club Brugge on matchday eight of the UEFA Champions League.
Pep Guardiola and Nicky Hayen are expected to confirmed their respective Manchester City and Club Brugge starting line-ups around 18:45 (UK) on Wednesday night.
Now confirmed.
