Mowbray has confirmed that Alex Pritchard failed to make training on Thursday due to a groin issue.

Luke O’Nien also missed training having picked up a knock since the victory over Millwall last weekend.

Fortunately, some good news for Sunderland is that Daniel Ballard has finally made his return to the training pitch.

He took part in a full session this morning and is in contention for a return to the U21 side in a bid to get him back to match fitness.

Mowbray also confirmed that Ross Stewart is available for the visit of the Baggies to the Stadium of Light, with a spot on the bench now looking likely.

Meanwhile, Jewison Bennette and Bailey Wright have returned to the Sunderland first team squad following their exits from the World Cup and will be available for selection on Monday night.

The Verdict

This is a bit of a mixed bag for Sunderland supporters, with Pritchard and O’Nien both potentially set to be absent against West Brom.

The pair have been key players for the side under Mowbray, so their absence would have a big impact on the side.

However, the possible returns of Stewart and Ballard will be a huge relief as the pair have both been unavailable for quite some time.

Pritchard and O’Nien both featured in the 3-0 win over the Lions on Saturday, so it is possible that we will see some changes in the starting lineup to face Carlos Corberan’s side.
