Paul Heckingbottom’s side are back in action this coming Saturday against Millwall in what’s their first fixture at Bramall Lane of 2022/23.

The Blades have been boosted by the availability of Ahmedhodžić, who missed the opening day clash with Watford due to a suspension carried over from his spell with Bordeaux.

As per a report from the Sheffield Star, Heckingbottom is due to hand the centre-back his senior debut for Sheffield United against Millwall in the Championship on Saturday.

Ahmedhodžić is one of Sheffield United’s four summer signings, joining loanees Ciaran Clark, Tommy Doyle and Reda Khadra in arriving at Bramall Lane after last season’s failed push for promotion.

Quite who Ahmedhodžić replaces in Heckingbottom’s side remains to be seen, with Clark joining Rhys Norrington-Davies and John Egan in a back-three against Watford on Monday night.

Sheffield United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Vicarage Road, with Joao Pedro’s second-half goal the difference on an evening where the Blades failed to rediscover the groove in which they ended last season with.

The Verdict

Ahmedhodžić has arrived at Bramall Lane as an international centre-back and someone with great ability.

You’d expect that when he’s available, he’s going to play, including this coming weekend.

Apart from a lapse for the Watford goal on Monday, Sheffield United defended fairly well, but Norrington-Davies isn’t a natural centre-back and Heckingbottom will be minded to get players in their correct positions.

The Welsh international might be shuffled out of the defence, then, for Millwall’s visit to Bramall Lane, allowing Ahmedhodžić to come in.
