Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has revealed that Aaron Morley, Kieran Sadlier, Declan John and Owen Beck have returned to training and thus could potentially feature for the club in their EFL Trophy clash with Manchester United’s Under-21 side tomorrow.

Ricardo Santos is also making progress in terms of his road to recovery from a viral infection which has led to him missing the club’s last two league games.

In the absence of the defender, Bolton secured a point in their clash with Bristol Rovers before suffering a disappointing 3-2 defeat at the hands of Shrewsbury Town.

Evatt was also unable to call upon the services of Kyle Dempsey for these two aforementioned league games.

Dempsey sustained an ankle injury during Bolton’s 3-2 victory over Barrow in the second round of the EFL Trophy.

Whereas the club’s meeting with the Red Devils’ youth outfit will come too soon for the midfielder, he is expected to be back in training later this week.

United set up a clash with Bolton by eliminating Wolves’ Under-21 side from the competition on penalties last month.

Ahead of this game, Evatt has shared an update on six Bolton players.

Speaking to The Bolton News, the Wanderers boss said: “I had an update yesterday.

“Aaron Morley, Kieran Sadlier and Owen Beck are back in and feeling much better.

“Declan John is back in, which is positive.

“As far as I know, we haven’t had any more go down, which is important as well, Ricardo is feeling better albeit still quite chesty.

“Kyle Dempsey should be back with us later this week.

“And no injuries from the weekend, so a lot more positive.”

The Verdict

This is a welcome update for Bolton as they certainly missed the aforementioned players in their defeat to Shrewsbury.

It will be interesting to see whether Evatt decides to field a strong outfit in the club’s clash with the Red Devils as the club’s main priority in the coming months will be to remain in contention for a top-six finish.

Currently fifth in the League One standings, Bolton know that they will need to embark on a good run of form in order to stay ahead of the likes of Peterborough United, Derby County and Portsmouth.

By defeating United’s Under-21 side on Tuesday, Wanderers could potentially use the confidence gained from this result to their advantage in their showdown with Exeter City this weekend.
