Referee Anthony Taylor has been criticised in recent weeks for some of his performances.

On August 28, Chelsea travelled to Liverpool for their Premier League clash.

The Blues were leading 1-0 when Reece James was sent off and Liverpool were given a penalty.

James was positioned on his own goalline when the ball hit him on the knee before striking his hand.

Chelsea players protested his sending off furiously but all in vain.

The referee that day? Taylor.

A petition was even set up to ban Taylor from Chelsea games, attracting over 75,000 signatures.

Taylor made another blunder in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The Englishman was given the task of overseeing Dynamo Kiev's game against Benfica in Ukraine.

The score was 0-0 when Taylor decided to send off a Dynamo player with 10 minutes remaining.

Denys Garmash went into a challenge and he caught Joao Mario.

Taylor showed him what he thought was his second yellow card and subsequently sent him off.

But there was a problem. That was only Garmash's first booking of the game.

The 31-year-old looked stunned after being shown a red card.

He made his protests known to Taylor while Dynamo manager Mircea Lucescu also made his feelings clear.

Fortunately, Taylor quickly realised his mistake and overturned his decision.

Garmash saw the funny side as he smiled in relief.

There were no goals in the final 10 minutes of the game as the two sides shared the spoils.

The other game in Group E saw Bayern Munich defeat Barcelona 3-0 at Camp Nou.

Dynamo will travel to Bayern on September 29 for their next group game, with Benfica hosting Barcelona on the same day.
