Dylan Williams’ impressive stats show just why Chelsea signed him
the Chelsea News
We’re into the last das of January, and it looks very much like Chelsea are going to end the window without having signed a first team player.
They did complete one deal though – for Derby County talent Dylan Williams. He plays at left back, where Chelsea have been looking for players, but will apparently be considered an option for the development squad rather than the first team.
That status might not last long though, and it certainly won’t if Williams keeps up his form from his Derby days when he’s with the Chelsea first team. The Athletic have a really nice piece talking about his qualities as a player and telling the story of how he got his big move.
They note that when he was played at left wing back in one of his 6 Championship appearances he whipped in an awesome 6 crosses. For reference, Chelsea’s best performing player in that category this season is Reece James, who averages 3.39 a game.
Williams also has impressive stats compared to Ben Chilwell – he averages 2.6 crosses a game compared to Chilwell’s 1.6. Of course it’s a small sample size and at a lower level, but the numbers jump out at you regardless.
