Manchester United star Andreas Pereira said to be interested in a move to Brazilian side Santos

According to De Olho No Peixe via Globo Esporte (h/t Sport Witness), Santos president Andres Rueda has made a stunning revelation regarding wantaway Manchester United star Andreas Pereira.

The Brazilian spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at the Italian giants Lazio. While he did get to see a fair bit of action, his performances were far from impressive. Pereira scored a solitary goal and made four assists in 33 appearances for the Romans. (h/t Transfermarkt)

His time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown little to suggest he is a part of the Norwegian’s plans. With Pereira keen to get his career back on track, a move elsewhere could prove pivotal.

According to the report, Rueda is eyeing three Brazilian stars who Santos could potentially sign. Apart from Pereira, this includes Manchester City’s Fernandinho and West Ham United’s Felipe Anderson.

He goes on to add that of the three it is Pereira who appears to have shown the most interest to play for Santos. Although from Brazil, a potential move to the Urbano Caldeira Stadium will give the 25-year-old his first taste of Barzilian football.

“The third is my namesake, Andreas Pereira, who is dying to play here, he earns less than Felipe Anderson, R$1.2m (£170k).”

An easter egg?

As things stand there has been no move from Santos to land their man. Whether they will be encouraged enough to make one remains to be seen. Pereira’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2023. While Lazio could return for him this summer, the deal is unlikely to be a permanent one.

Perhaps curiously, Pereira recently posted a story on Instagram showing he was wearing Santos flip-flops during his vacations. Whether he is trying to make a subtle hint remains to be seen.

Having joined United from PSV Eindhoven in 2014, Pereira failed to build upon the initial promise he showed at the club. Winner of the prestigious Denzel Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year in 2015, things have gone downhill for the Brazilian.

At 25, he is better off seeking regular playing time elsewhere. It is time he moved on and accepted that his time at United might not come.
