On Klopp’s struggles

“There’s no sympathy only empathy. He certainly doesn’t need my sympathy. My focus is solely on Everton.”

“There’s different ways that the team can operate. It’s Nirvana for most managers. I don’t look at one player to try and win games, it’s got to be a team collective. You defend as a team, you score as a team. That’s all I believe. So it’s not about one player. Whoever plays next it’s a great opportunity.”

On Calvert-Lewin’s fitness

“We’re still monitoring him. He’s had a couple of niggly injuries. He’ll be touch and go at best for the Liverpool game so we’ll just have to hope it settles down sooner rather than later.

“He’s had a fair few ups and downs with injuries. I’ve spoken to him about how we want to play our part in correcting that, trying to give him and overall strength.

“We’re hoping this is just a blip at the start of this journey. He’s got a nice desire to get there and showed that in the Arsenal performance where he showed what a good player he is.

“It’s just about getting him so fit and strong that he can go out and play with freedom. I don’t think he’s quite been there.”

On Snoods and hats on the training ground

“We don’t have them. The rules of the game say you can’t wear either during a match. That’s it.”
