A day after being named to Newcastle’s 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season, Newcastle received some delightful news over Dwight Gayle’s potential return.

According to Football Insider, a source close to the club has revealed that the 30-year-old could come back from injury as soon as December.

Gayle has been out of action since suffering a knee injury back in late August, which required him to undergo surgery at the beginning of September.

At the time of the injury, manager Steve Bruce believed Gayle would miss approximately three-to-four months, meaning that the player is recovering ahead of schedule.

Soon after Gayle was ruled out, Newcastle splurged to the tune of £20m on former Bournemouth star Callum Wilson, who has exceeded expectations with four goals and an assist in his first five Premier League appearances for the club.

Gayle is on the final year of his original five-year deal, meaning the former Crystal Palace forward can sign a pre-contract agreement with the club of his choice beginning in January.
