A week or so ago we were reporting on Feyenoord’s strong interest in Ian Maatsen, our young left back who has had a couple of really good loans and is now seemingly ready for a step up to the top level.

But AD in Holland say that he’s turned down the move, as he’s keen to stay put and push for the first team at Chelsea.

We have to say, we’re delighted by this news. When we heard he was keen on a move to Feyenoord we could understand it to an extent – he got to go and play guaranteed top flight first team football in his home country and in Europe too.

But given he still seems to have the talent to play for us, and given there’s likely to be space for a backup left back in the squad this season, we’re much happier to hear he wants to carry on the hard work at Cobham.
