Dutch journalist Maarten Wijffels feels that Sipke Hulshoff’s impending move to Liverpool could severely affect the Netherlands’ European Championship preparations.

A deal is in place between Feyenoord and Liverpool for Arne Slot to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield at the end of the season.

The Dutchman will be taking his assistant Hulshoff to the Merseyside giants but that is likely to pose a problem for the Netherlands team.

Hulshoff is the assistant to Ronald Koeman in the Netherlands set-up and it is unclear whether Liverpool would be willing to allow him to stay with the Oranje for the duration of the European Championship this summer.

Wijffels conceded that if he is asked to make a choice then Hulshoff would have to choose Liverpool, but insisted that would be a huge issue for the Netherlands as the coach is expected to prepare the squad for the European Championship.

“If you have to choose, you have no choice but to go with Slot to Liverpool”, Wijffels said on ESPN’s Voetbalpraat (via Voetbal Primeur).

“He is the field coach.

“In June, he would spend two and a half weeks working on the way of playing for the European Championship.

“Not much has happened yet because there were injuries.”

Liverpool would expect Slot and his staff to start work early in the summer as they prepare for the post-Jurgen Klopp era.
