Ajax captain Dušan Tadić hopes that reported Manchester United target Antony will remain with the Dutch club this season.
The Brazil winger was omitted from the squad for Sunday’s 1-0 win at Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, as speculation surrounding his immediate future continues to intensify.
Speaking at a press conference afterwards, Tadić admitted he has spoken to Antony about the situation.
“He’s a great player, we know that. We miss him and have to wait and see what will happen,” he said (via Voetbal International).’
“I spoke to him, yes. You always try to talk to players.”
Ultimately, however, Tadić accepted that the player will make his own mind up on the matter.
“He is 22 years old, a grown man. He knows what to do. You can always say what you want, but he makes a decision with the club.”
Asked if Ajax would need to replace Antony should he leave, Tadić responded: “That’s not for me to say. We have a great selection. Good players are always welcome.”
Steven Berghuis filled in on the right flank at Sparta Stadion, where left winger Steven Bergwijn scored the match-winning goal late in the first half.
