Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse will not be part of the England squad at this summer’s European Championship, according to reports.

Although both were named in Gareth Southgate’s initial squad, they are set to be left out of the final 26.

The England boss named an initial 33-man pool but must cut seven players ahead of the deadline on Tuesday and according to ESPN, Alexander-Arnold is one of those who will miss out.

After Reece James and Kyle Walker both came through the Champions League final unscathed and registered no problems, they will both remain in the final squad.

However, Southgate is expected to take a third right-back to the tournament, namely LaLiga title winner Kieran Trippier.

And Alexander-Arnold isn’t the only player who has been named as missing out, with Southampton midfielder Ward-Prowse also to be axed, per The Athletic.

The reasoning behind the decision is reportedly due to Southgate’s desire to bring midfielders whose clubs finished higher in the Premier League table.

Jordan Henderson is believed to be included, despite being sidelined with injury since February.
