Inter defender Denzel Dumfries has admitted that losing the Scudetto battle to AC Milan last season is one that still ‘burns’.

It has often been speculated that Milan’s 2-1 victory over the Nerazzurri back in February was a big part of the reason why the Rossoneri went on and won the league title, and also therefore where Inter lost the Scudetto battle.

A second half brace from Olivier Giroud was enough to complete a huge comeback victory and it reopened the battle to become champions, sparking Milan into a ruthless run that eventually saw them finish top of the pile after winning their last six games of the season.

Dumfries was interviewed by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf and he was asked in particular about that game, where he was a protagonist as he and Theo Hernandez squared up more than once, with the Frenchman even getting sent off for a late foul.

“We want to win the Scudetto because we lost it last season. Even today, the feeling of having lost the last title burns strongly,” he said (via MilanLive).
