Duane Holmes has offered his initial verdict on Mark Fotheringham’s arrival as Huddersfield Town’s newest manager.

The midfielder has been reminded of David Wagner’s first few weeks in charge upon the arrival of the 38-year-old.

Fotheringham has already overseen five training sessions in just three days as he looks to get to grips with his new surroundings ahead of a busy October schedule.

Holmes believes that the new coach has already had a positive impact on the atmosphere of the dressing room.

The American has likened his impact to the German coach, who previously led the club to promotion to the Premier League during his time in charge of the first team.

“We knew that a new head coach would be coming, and we’d just been working as hard as we could until he arrived,” said Holmes, via the club’s Twitter account.

“He’s come in and changed a few things already, it’s been intense.

“It’s been really good – it reminds me a little bit of when David [Wagner] arrived.”

Win Draw Loss

Holmes was with Huddersfield when Wagner arrived in 2015, but departed the club in 2016, only arriving back from Derby County in January 2021.

The 27-year-old became a consistent starter under Carlos Corberan and will be hoping to maintain a position as an important member of the squad under Fotheringham.

The new manager takes charge of his first Championship game this weekend when they face an away trip to the Madejski Stadium for a clash against Reading.

The Verdict

If Fotheringham is to live up to the work Wagner achieved with the club then he will have his work cut out for him.

Expectations will be much lower for the Scot for his initial arrival, with the team currently sitting in the relegation zone.

But this is also a squad that earned a play-off final place last season, so the potential is certainly there for this group of players to achieve great things.

However, first things first will be to steer the club away from any potential relegation battle this campaign.
