Toni Kroos has revealed that he drank so much after Bayern Munich’s Champions League defeat to Chelsea in 2012, that he was forced to call an emergency doctor.
Kroos – who now plays for Real Madrid – was attempting to numb the pain of losing to the Premier League side despite being tipped as favourites.
And things could have been much worse for the midfielder with brother Felix forced to sit close-by to ensure he was still breathing.
“The Champions League final against Chelsea in 2012 – that was us drinking out of frustration,” Kroos told the Einfach mal Luppen podcast.
“It was not a good thing but at least there was a reason for it. Imagine if it came out that I called an emergency doctor for having too much to drink!
“There was no other way to ease the pain of defeat. In the end we called the emergency doctor, but it was my fault that I wasn’t feeling well the next day.
“I couldn’t look at tequila that evening and that’s why I gave it up (drinking) completely. It didn’t hurt and I don’t miss it.”
Kroos has since gone onto win three Champions League titles with Real Madrid after joining the club in 2013.
