Sam Allardyce has confirmed the worst after James McCarthy suffered a double leg fracture on Saturday.
During an unfortunate collision with West Brom striker Salomón Rondón, McCarthy was left on the ground in pain before he was treated and stretchered off.
“He won’t be available until next season, a huge blow for him,” said Sam Allardyce after the game.
“He’s suffered with injury this season, what we call niggly injuries, and we felt we’d got over those, he was getting fitter and his game was beginning to come back and bang, this happens.
“It’s a long period of time for him to recover from this, unfortunately.”
McCarthy had stretched ahead of Rondón as the West Brom striker attempted to get a shot away.
Following the challenge, the Rondón chased after referee Stuart Atwell in a rush to get the Everton medical team on the pitch.
Everton defender Seamus Coleman, who broke his leg 10 months ago and is yet to return, was seen leaving the stands to visit his team-mate.
Oumar Niasse came off the bench for Everton to score a late equaliser at Goodison Park, cancelling out Jay Rodriguez’s early opener.
