Borussia Dortmund’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League were dealt a huge blow after they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat away to Freiburg.

Woo-Yeong Jeong and Jonathan Schmid both struck long-range efforts to earn the three points for Christian Streich’s side, before Youssoufa Moukoko got one back.

Scorers: Jeong 49, Schmid 52′; Moukoko 76′.

BVB will be ruing not taking their chances in the first half as they were well on top with Emre Can smashing a 30-yard drive against the crossbar.

Erling Haaland was then left wondering how he didn’t score as he was picked out unmarked at the back post by Giovanni Reyna but Florian Müller produced a tremendous save to deny the Norwegian striker.

The hosts came out and started the second half on fire and were 2-0 up inside the first five minutes.

Vincenzo Grifo’s pass found Woo-Yeong Jeong who hit a shot that arrowed into the top corner from just outside the box to send Freiburg 1-0 up.

Marwin Hitz could do nothing about that goal but was at fault for the second as Jonathan Schmid’s powerful effort sneaked in at the Swiss goalkeeper’s near post.

Edin Terzić turned to 16-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko off the bench again and was nearly instantly rewarded when the striker hit the outside of the post.

Moukoko wasn’t to be denied for long as the teenager got his team back into the match with a right-footed finish inside the box after being played in by Haaland.

Dortmund have now lost three out of their last four games and remain in sixth place, three points off the top four.
