Borussia Dortmund teenager Tom Rothe has extended his contract at the Westfalenstadion, the club have announced.

The 18-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a new deal until the summer of 2026.

However, he will spend the upcoming campaign out on loan, with Dortmund also confirming that he has joined Holstein Kiel for the 2023/24 season.

“We firmly believe in Tom’s quality and want to prove that with a long-term extension. It is important for him to be playing as much as possible and gain competitive experience,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

“We’re confident he’ll do well in Kiel and will be monitoring his progress there very closely.

Rothe, who netted on his Dortmund debut against Wolfsburg, has made seven appearances in all competitions for BVB to date.
