Borussia Dortmund moved into top spot of the Bundesliga table heading into the weekend with a gutsy 3-1 win at Hoffenheim.
Scorers: Kramarić (P) 25′ ; Füllkrug 18′, Reus 45+3′, Ryerson 90+5
The tension was palpable with the two sides heading into the match neck and neck in the standings.
The visitors broke the deadlock however, as Niclas Füllkrug snatched his first BVB goal after a bad John Brooks giveaway allowed the striker in behind.
Dortmund’s momentum would be quelled less than ten minutes later when Mats Hummels took down a Hoffenheim player as he darted into the box. Hoffenheim’s record scorer Andrej Kramarić stepped up and dispatched the penalty to level the score.
While it looked like the game would fizzle out in the final minutes of the half, Marco Reus popped up to fire home after a scramble in the box, reclaiming BVB’s advantage with the last kick of the half.
Dortmund looked to be cruising towards victory but the game was flipped on its head in the final 20 minutes when Ramy Bensebaini received his second yellow card of the night after kicking the ball away after the whistle, seeing Dortmund go down to ten-men for the final exchanges of the game.
The numbers advantage was not enough for Hoffenheim to snatch a point or more, and their chances were killed off by a stoppage time strike from Julian Ryerson.
The three points see Borussia Dortmund move top of the Bundesliga for now.
