Dortmund stance making Man Utd ‘confident’ a deal can be done for Sancho | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund’s public stance over the future of Jadon Sancho has increased Manchester United’s confidence that a deal can still be agreed, according to reports.

Dortmund last week declared that any club hoping to sign the England international had missed their deadline, with Sancho’s involvement during the club’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland meaning the winger would be a part of their squad for next season.

Manchester United had held talks with the Bundesliga side but the two clubs remained some distance apart in their valuation of the player, Dortmund believed to be demanding a British transfer-record fee of €120 million (£108m) for the 20-year-old.

United’s refusal to meet those demands before the club’s August 10 deadline led to Dortmund sporting director, Michael Zorc, claiming that the deal was now dead and informing the press that ‘the decision is final’.

Dortmund also tweeted on Monday to suggest that Sancho’s future lies with the Bundesliga side for at least another season, posting an image of the winger smiling following their trip to Switzerland.

That post was followed by Sancho conducting an interview on Wednesday with club channel, BVB-TV, in which the youngster spoke of his happiness with life at the club.

“I love playing with this lot,” he said. “It is a special bunch. We’ve got some special young players coming up.

“I am really happy to share the pitch with them and guide them. I was once in their shoes, playing with the seniors. I am happy for them.”

According to the Evening Standard, however, Dortmund’s public stance has only increased the belief at United that the club are keen to sell Sancho this summer despite the slow progress made with negotiations, the Bundesliga side forcing negotiations to be conducted through an intermediary agent.

The negotiations has led to a stalemate with neither side prepared to blink at present, Dortmund confident United will relent and pay their asking price despite the Premier League side’s insistence they will not go that high.

United believe, however, that Dortmund’s desire to keep Sancho in the public eye is a sign that a deal can still be done, as they bid to force the Red Devils into paying the full asking price for the player.

Dortmund took a similar stance with the future of former star Ousmane Dembele, insisting the Frenchman would not be sold before sanctioning his sale to Barcelona in a staggering deal which could rise as high as £135.5m.
