Borussia Dortmund's tough start under Nuri Şahin continued as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Augsburg.
Scorers: Claude 25, 50''; Malen 4'
Having thrown away a 2-0 lead against Real Madrid in midweek, Dortmund again took the lead against Augsburg, with Donyell Malen finding the net after just four minutes.
And they looked good value for their lead in the early stages, but were stunned when Alexis Claude-Maurice found the bottom corner with a low effort from all of 30 yards that Gregor Kobel will perhaps feel he could have done better with.
It was the hosts' only shot on target as Dortmund continued to be on the front foot, but they could not find a way past the Augsburg backline and headed into the break level.
Just five minutes into the second half, the home side took advantage of some more sloppy defending as Claude-Maurice again found the bottom corner, this time from the edge of the penalty area, to put his side in front.
It was the beginning of a much more even half, though Sahin's side dominated the ball. Despite that, they could not find a way to test the Augsburg no.1, and a late late red card for Dortmund's Almugera Kabar ensured that the hosts held on for an impressive win, piling the pressure on the Dortmund boss.
