Transfer News: Borussia Dortmund place massive price tag on Erling Haaland as they look to fend off Manchester United

According to Spanish publication AS (h/t Daily Mail), Borussia Dortmund have slapped a massive €200m price tag on Erling Haaland amid interest from clubs including Manchester United.

The Norwegian striker has been impressive in Germany and is one of the most wanted players in the world. He has attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Manchester United.

But the Red Devils are not the only ones after the 20-year-old sensation. Chelsea, Manchester City, and Spanish giants, Real Madrid also hold an interest in signing the former RB Salzburg frontman. (h/t Daily Mail)

United want to strengthen their frontline going into the next season as the club aims to win their first trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. But with a massive price tag now placed on Haaland, it remains to be seen what happens with United’s interest.

Where next for Haaland?

If Haaland stays in Germany, then clubs could save a massive amount of money by attempting to sign him next year. His release clause, which lies somewhere near £70m, activates in the summer of 2022.

That seems like a better time to sign Haaland for United because of the amount of money that can be saved. But with so many teams interested in him, waiting that long could turn out to be costly for the Red Devils.

Another blow for United could come in the form of Haaland joining a Premier League rival. Not only will the club lose out on a quality player, but they would also see a rival team strengthening their ranks.

Haaland has this summer off as Norway failed to qualify for the UEFA Euros. However, his club for next season still remains uncertain. And United fans would be hoping to see Solskjaer’s compatriot ply his trade at Old Trafford next campaign.
