Axel Witsel is set to miss the remainder of the season, Dortmund head coach Edin Terzić confirmed on Thursday.

The Belgian suffered a torn achilles last weekend and the club announced he would be injured for “months”.

Speaking to the media, Terzić confirmed the worst case scenario.

“Axel Witsel is unfortunately seriously injured and will probably not be available until the end of the season,” said the BVB boss.

There was, though, a more positive update on Jude Bellingham, who has not played since December because of a foot injury.

“Jude Bellingham has trained again and is coming back,” Terzić said.

“He trained and looked good yesterday and today. If that’s the same tomorrow (Friday), then he’s an option for the squad on Saturday and we’ll see how many minutes he can play.”

With Bellingham only just returning, Dortmund are likely to line up with Emre Can and Thomas Delaney in midfield as they host Mainz.
