Roman Bürki has been ruled out of Borussia Dortmund’s midweek DFB Pokal third-round tie with Paderborn.

The BVB goalkeeper is troubled by a shoulder problem that saw him miss Saturday’s 3-1 win over Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed Bürki’s absence, adding that the former Switzerland international will undergo a scan to get to the root of the issue.

“Roman is definitely out of the cup game. He has an MRI examination at the beginning of the week,” Zorc told the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

“We hope that it will work again in the days after the Paderborn game.”

Marwin Hitz impressed between the posts against Augsburg, and is set to continue to deputise for his countryman as Die Schwarzgelben seek to reach the quarter-finals of the cup competition.
