Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Alex Meyer has signed a new contract until 2025.
The 32-year-old had never played in the Bundesliga before he joined the club last summer and went on to make seven league and five Champions League appearances in 2022/23 as Gregor Kobel’s understudy.
“Alex is much more than a backup goalkeeper,” sporting director Sebastian Kehl explained.
“He has shown his ability at a really high level whenever he has been needed. He’s an absolute team player, a great footballer, and a reliable professional with experience that lends a team calmness and security.”
Meyer will remain Kobel’s backup, with the first choice goalkeeper linked with the captaincy vacated by Marco Reus earlier this week.
