Borussia Dortmund are closing in on a double deal to sign Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho and Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen on loan for the rest of the season.
The German side have made approaches to sign the out-of-favour duo, with Sancho set to re-sign for Dortmund after a fallout with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
Sancho has not featured for the Red Devils since being dropped from the squad to face Arsenal on September 3, after Ten Hag criticised the 23-year-old’s performance levels in training. Sancho denied those claims and has been ostracised from the squad in recent months, with all parties keen to sanction his loan return to the Bundesliga.
The winger impressed during his previous four seasons at Dortmund, twice earning inclusion in the Bundesliga Team of the Season, before his £72.9m move to Manchester United in 2021.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Dortmund are also ‘increasingly confident’ of finalising a deal to sign Chelsea’s Maatsen this week. The 21-year-old turned down a permanent exit from Chelsea in the summer but has failed to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, featuring for just 201 minutes in the Premier League this season.
Maatsen spent last season on loan at Burnley and was named in the Championship Team of the Season as the Clarets won promotion to the Premier League.
The versatile full-back was subject of a bid from Burnley in the summer, but rejected the chance to re-join Vincent Kompany’s side on a loan deal with an obligation to buy for a fee in the region of £30m.
