The young Norwegian star was one of Europe’s hottest prospects two years ago as he made his name in the Champions League for RB Salzburg, swiftly catching the eye of Europe’s biggest clubs.
His efforts for the Austrian club earned him a move to Dortmund but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his side made an attempt to bring him to Old Trafford, it has now been confirmed.
Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that Manchester United’s offer was superior to the German club’s in 2020 but the Norway international was swayed by BVB’s sporting project.
“The offer from Manchester United was better,” Watzke told Sport1. “However Mino Raiola realised that Erling is better off with us.”
Mino Raiola maintains a complicated relationship with Manchester United, having brought several high-profile players to the Old Trafford club. Paul Pogba is the most notable arrival, with the Frenchman’s own contract dispute making headlines.
Raiola also brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the club.
