Flamengo manager Dorival Júnior expressed delight after his side’s hard-fought landmark victory at Avaí on Sunday.

The Rubro-Negro fell behind to an Arthur Chaves goal just two minutes after the break and needed a brace from the increasingly reliable Pedro to turn the game in their favour and register their first-ever win away at the Leão da Ilha.

“That’s an important mark. Flamengo never having won in Ressacada over the years is very interesting,” Júnior said afterwards.

“It is a registered trademark. I’m happy to be in this remarkable moment for the club.”

A third league victory in a row lifted the Mengāo to sixth in the Brasileirão table, a run that is making the decision to sack Paulo Sousa last month look the correct one.

“Round by round we build our story. Our championship is one of recovery. We have to take those points necessary to reach the leaders,” the 60-year-old Júnior added.

Flamengo will take a break from league action in midweek when they host Athletico Paranaense in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil quarter-final tie.
