Bayern were held to a goalless draw versus the reigning Bundesliga champions at the Bay Arena on Saturday evening. Vincent Kompany’s side remain eight points clear at the top of the table with 12 league games to go.
However, Bayern’s performance has been heavily criticised in German media. It is the first time in over 1100 matches since 1992 Bayern failed to register a shot on target in a competitive encounter.
Celtic travel to Bavaria knowing they must win the game in order to stand a chance of progression to the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition which would set up a tie against either Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid next month.
Speaking to the media post-match in Leverkusen, Bayern Munich icon Thomas Muller said: “Bayer Leverkusen played a good game. We took home a good result and will continue on our path.
“Of course, it’s obvious we could play better in general. But sometimes you just have to hold steady in games like these when the attacking momentum is not on your side. And we did that well.”
“You can call our performance whatever you want. But we are eight points clear in February. And on Tuesday we have the chance to advance at home in the Champions League against Celtic.

“So, we aren’t worried about anything! You have to praise Bayer Leverkusen because they really pressed us for the first time, and it worked.”
