Liverpool have recently been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.

However, former Bayern Munich footballer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge does not believe that Liverpool will sign the 21-year-old.

Rummenigge further added that he could see Real Madrid signing Haaland.

“With Lewandowski, you have the best centre-forward in the world. Haaland is the second best,” Rummenigge told Marca.

“Haaland is an investment. I don’t think he will go to Liverpool. With Haaland, I wouldn’t rule out Real either.

“Maybe they’ll open the box a bit more in the summer and possibly get Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We do agree with Rummenigge’s comments regarding Liverpool and Haaland.

It has been reported that the striker will be available for a fee between €75-90 million next summer (release clause).

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owners, have never spent more than €84.65 million on a transfer (Virgil van Dijk – January 2018).

Also, the money spent to purchase Van Dijk came from the sale of wantaway midfielder Phillipe Coutinho.

Liverpool sold the Brazilian to Barcelona for a transfer fee of €135 million a few days before purchasing Van Dijk.

Therefore, the only way we can see FSG signing Haaland next summer is by selling a player with value.

But, as things stand, none of Liverpool’s star players have implied that they want to leave the club come the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
