Man United have reportedly won the race for Benjamin Sesko after agreeing a transfer with RB Leipzig for the striker.

Newcastle United had also been pursuing the Slovenia international as they search for a replacement for Alexander Isak, who has been courted by Liverpool this summer.

Their hunt for a new forward will continue as Man United have “reached an agreement in principle” with Leipzig to sign Sesko, according to The Athletic.

They will pay an initial transfer fee of €76.5m (£66.4m) plus €8.5m (£7.37m) in add-ons, securing the 22-year-old for a lower guaranteed fee than Newcastle would have and “will be happy if the contingency payments are achieved”.

The 22-year-old has been granted permission to travel for a medical ahead of completing his move to the Red Devils.

Sesko scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for Leipzig following his move from Salzburg in 2023. He will be United’s third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolves and Brentford respectively.

Meanwhile, Sesko’s arrival could spell the end of Rasmus Hojlund’s career at Man United. The Danish striker struggled to find the net last season, scoring just four in the Premier League and ten in all competitions.

Leipzig have reportedly enquired about the possibility of taking Hojlund on loan next season, although the player has said wants to fight for his place at United.
