Domènec Torrent still sees huge room for improvement after Flamengo overcame Santos 1-0 to register only their second win of the Brasileirão season.
The Rubro-Negro had to ride their luck at the Vila Belmiro, as the hosts had two goals chalked off by VAR before Gabriel Barbosa hit the winner in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time.
“I think it was very important for everyone to train concepts and how we want to play in the future,” Torrent told media after the game.
“Today we play 30% of what we train. Today I know perfectly how they can play. We will improve.”
The former New York City FC head coach believes his methods are starting to bear fruit, but admitted it is still early in the process.
“We have to improve little by little,” the Flamengo boss said.
“This is not like turning the light on or off. All coaches need time.
“Now I think we’re physically better. Tactically everyone understands better what we want to do.”
Torrent’s charges will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to face Bahia.
