Ange Postecoglou says he is not a fan of VAR decisions being explained aloud by referees during the game to supporters.
Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Liverpool will see referees explain VAR decisions over the speakers to the supporters in the stadium for the first time in English football, along with the other semi-final clash between Arsenal and Newcastle.
But Postecoglou, who has been a vocal critic of VAR and the use of it, says he is not on board with the idea, and used Newcastle’s controversial equaliser against Spurs on Saturday as an example.
He said: “Do I welcome it? No.
“Do you think if they would have shown the handball on the weekend that our supporters would have been happy? Would they have come away saying ‘oh that’s great, they explained it?’.
“But at the same time, I have to accept that it’s coming in, I have to accept that this is the way forward, I have to accept that I have to be a part of that, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if I’m not a cheerleader for those kind of things.”
