Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that defender Djed Spence has moved on loan to Ligue 1 side Rennes.

The 22-year-old will spend the rest of the season in France with Spurs edging closer to signing right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting.

Spence only arrived in north London from Middlesbrough for £20m in the summer but has failed to break into Antonio Conte’s first team, making just four appearances so far this season.

Conte’s desire to bring in Porro, along with Emerson Royal already taking a space in the squad, meant Spence had fallen down the pecking order.

Spence will link up with fellow Spurs loanee Joe Rodon at Rennes.
