Darren Bent has slammed Everton winger Richarlison for his red-card tackle on Thiago Alcantra against Liverpool last weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England striker said his absence will mean the Toffees’ front-line will see a “drop-off” with Alex Iwobi replacing the Brazilian international.

Richarlison was sent-off in the closing stages of last weekend’s fiery Merseyside derby for a reckless mistimed lunge on Thiago.

He missed Everton’s game against Southampton as a result of the suspension he picked up and will also be unavailable for the trip to Newcastle United and the visit of Manchester United.

“For Everton now who can come in?” Bent told Football Insider.

“Obviously, they’ve got Alex Iwobi with Calvert-Lewin and Rodriguez but we know there’s going to be a drop-off.

“He’s been brilliant but that moment of madness was not good.

“That tackle was awful on Thiago Alcantara. It was a disgusting tackle, to be honest, it was awful. He’s got to face the punishment and retribution.

“I’m sure Everton will find a way but there will be a bit of a drop-off because he’s been really well. If anything that tackle has let himself down because he’s had a very good start to the season.

“After that one incident people are not going to be talking about his start to the season and how well he’s done, they’re going to be talking about the horrific challenge he put on Thiago.”

Iwobi started the game at St. Mary’s in Richarlison‘s absence as the Toffees lost 2-0 to Ralph Hasenhutl’s side – their first loss of the season.

The Brazilian’s absence was keenly felt after he started the season in fine form, scoring four goals and providing two assists in seven games so far this campaign.
