Diriangén face Municipal in Central American Cup | OneFootball

MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continues with Diriangén FC hosting CSD Municipal in Group B on Thursday at Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Diriamba, Nicaragua.

The meeting will be the first between the sides in an official competition.

Diriangén FC won the Torneo Apertura 2024 to qualify for a third consecutive edition. Los Caciques enter the competition with the objective of advancing past the Group Stage for the first time. The Nicaraguan side currently lead the Torneo Apertura 2025 standings with nine points following wins in its three first matches of the season.

CSD Municipal will be one of three Guatemalan representatives this 2025 edition after finishing with the best overall record in the cumulative standings of the 2024-25 season. Los Rojos will aim to advance to the Knockout Stage for the first time in its second appearance. Municipal is currently third in the Torneo Apertura after recording a win and a draw in its first two matches.

For Diriangén FC, this will be their second match against Guatemalan clubs in the tournament, after facing Comunicaciones FC in the 2023 edition on Matchday 2 of Group C, on August 10, 2023, at Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Diriamba (NCA), a 0-1 loss for the Nicaraguan side with a goal from Jorman Aguilar. Internationally, in Concacaf club competitions, Diriangén FC has faced Guatemalan clubs 9 times: once in the Central American Cup (L-1), twice in the Scotiabank Concacaf League (W-1 D-1), twice in the Concacaf Interclub Cup (D-1 L-1), and four times in the Concacaf Champions Cup (L-4), with an overall record of W-1 D-2 L-6.

CSD Municipal will play their third match against Nicaraguan clubs in the Central American Cup and is still searching for their first win. The first match was against Managua FC on July 31, 2024, at Estadio Nacional in Managua (NCA), on Matchday 1 of Group D, a 1-0 loss with a goal from Arley Bonilla. The second match was on August 8, 2024, on Matchday 2 of Group D against Real Estelí FC at Estadio Pensativo in Antigua (GUA), ending in a 1-1 draw. Pedro Altán scored for the home team, while Harold Medina scored for the visitors. In Concacaf club competitions, CSD Municipal has faced Nicaraguan clubs 9 times: 4 times in the Concacaf Champions Cup (W-4), 3 times in the Concacaf Interclub Cup (W-3), and twice in the Concacaf Central American Cup (L-1 D-1), with an overall record of W-7 D-1 L-1.
