Union Berlin defender Diogo Leite has spoken favourably about AC Milan as the Rossoneri continue to monitor the Portuguese player.

Speaking to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola (via Pianeta Milan), the Union Berlin player was asked about the interest in him from various European clubs and he refused to state too clearly that he will be leaving the German side.

Considering how poor a season they had in 2023/24, it would certainly not be a surprise if he pursued a move to a club that has European football for the new season.

As the player explained, he is flattered by the interest in him and knows how big a deal it would be to move to a club like Milan this summer.

“I always like to think of the present and I am here at Union and I am doing my best to help the club achieve its goals. Of course, if a good opportunity comes along for the club and for me, we will see. The best thing for both of us will be decided soon. I like to focus on the present. I don’t think much, it’s whatever has to happen. If it will be a good opportunity for both parties, we will discuss it,” Leite said.

“Milan is a great club, everyone knows that, it’s at the top of European clubs. It’s nice when you hear interest from other clubs, it’s a sign that your work is rewarded, that you are doing a good job and this gives me the motivation to keep working and give my best every day. I am focused on the present.”

Milan are very keen to sign at least one centre-back this season given Simon Kjaer has left. It is not one of the biggest priorities during the summer, though.

Signing a striker is the most important thing and Alvaro Morata appears to be on the way. Next on the list is thought to be a defensive midfielder, with Youssouf Fofana the most plausible target.
