Liverpool striker Diogo Jota got back on the goal trail at the weekend, netting the third in the Reds’ 3-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

It was the 27-year-old’s first strike since suffering a knee ligament tear in February against Brentford.

His injury came at a crucial time for the Reds, with the Portugal international scoring five goals and providing three assists in his seven Premier League games December 26 and February 17 - the day he went off injured against the Bees.

During that series of games, Liverpool took 18 points out of 21 in the league, scoring 22 goals in all.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been crying out for a striker of Jota’s pedigree in the last few weeks as inefficiency in front of goal has cost them on three fronts.

They slipped out of the FA Cup having been defeated at the quarter-final stage against Manchester United, drew 2-2 against the same opposition in the league, and fell out of contention for the Europa League against Atalanta.

Jota made his return during the defeat to Crystal Palace game last week, and played 74 minutes as Liverpool beat the Cottagers.

'When the first drop comes out, everything flows'

Afterwards, he likened the goal-laden performance in London to getting the ketchup moving from the bottle, hoping that Liverpool are now in the flow.

The side will likely need to be flawless in their remaining five fixtures, with advantages lying with the other teams in the title race, Manchester City and Arsenal.

"I always like to say, sometimes it’s like ketchup, because when the first drop comes out, everything flows," the former Wolves man said on Premier League Productions.

"I hope that’s the case for the team. Three goals today was good away from home, and in three days we will play again, so let’s take that.

“Obviously it was a long time for me without playing and in the starting XI, and watching from home I think we missed sometimes this goal which brings the extra comfort and kind of kills the game in a way. It’s massive for us, it was a really good game like I said, especially second half. We need to take that into the next game.”
