Dimitri Payet (36) has not represented France since 10th November 2018, however, he harbours hopes of playing for Les Bleus once again.
After making his debut back in 2010, former West Ham United and Olympique de Marseille playmaker Payet went on to represent Les Bleus on 38 occasions, scoring eight goals. However, he has been on the outside of the national team set-up for over half a decade at this point.
Since making the move to Brazilian side Vasco da Gama last summer, Payet has scored four goals and registered four assists in 25 appearances. Whilst he is far from the borders of La Hexagone, Payet still has his thoughts on playing for France.
As hosts of the event, France are already qualified for this summer’s Olympics football tournament. Payet is hoping to be one of the three players over the age of 23 to be picked by manager Thierry Henry. “There are only three places. I am available for France. I know what it is like to play in the Euros in my country and it was extraordinary, but I don’t know what it is like to play in the Olympic Games. As a Frenchman, I would like to have this experience. I would enjoy it. Regardless, I am available, but we’ll see. The manager will make the choice and I am calm about it,” Payet told L’Équipe.
