Free agent Dieumerci Mbokani, formerly of Anderlecht, Standard Liege and Antwerp, has said he’s interested in returning to the Pro League.
The 36-year-old is one of the most clinical strikers to have ever played in Belgium, scoring more goals in its top division than all but nine players.
He found the back of the net 102 times in 203 matches. In that time, he represented Anderlecht, Standard Liege and most recently Antwerp.
After three hugely successful years with the latter club, he left last year to join Kuwait Sc. In his first year there, injuries and national team commitments prevented him from playing much, and he has now decided to terminate his contract due to a dispute regarding his wages.
“They didn’t respect my contract,” Mbokani said as per Het Nieuwsblad.
“I was not paid correctly. So the best thing I could do was cancel my contract.”
Despite turning 37 this year though, he has no plans to retire and would be interested in returning to the country where he enjoyed his best years.
“I’m ready to start a new challenge,” he added.
“I’m free, so the clubs don’t have to pay a transfer fee.”
