In an interview with Gazet Van Antwerpen, 37-year-old Congolese striker Dieumerci Mbokani was keen to point out that, despite his age, he still is able to get the job done on the pitch. The striker spoke about his future at SK Beveren, who he signed for this year. The former Anderlecht and Standard Liege striker said that should the side win promotion this weekend, he will remain at the club next year. However, even if they don’t, he did hint at the possibility of extending his stay at the club.
So far this season the striker has scored 15 goals in the Belgian second tier. Mbokani said ‘If you can still score fifteen goals at my age, you can be very happy’.
This weekend Beveren and RWDM will fight it out for the one promotion spot to the Belgian Pro League. After Beveren beat Lierse last weekend, Beveren denied RWDM promotion. Now, the Brussels based side know that as long as they match the result of Beveren against Club Brugge NXT, they will be promoted. Should they lose or draw to Anderlecht futures, Mbokani and Beveren can leapfrog them with a win.
