Club AmĂ©rica pulled off a shock 2-0 win at second-placed Tigres on Saturday to climb into Liga MXâs top four.
Scorers: ValdĂ©s 32âČ, MartĂn 90+2âČ
The hosts looked the more dangerous outlet in the opening exchanges although it took them half an hour to trouble Guillermo Ochoaâs goal.
Florian Thauvin cross was met by an unmarked Luis Quiñones whose header was clawed out of the top corner by the experienced Mexican goalkeeper.
That chance sparked América into life and, on the break, they opened the score. Diego Valdés received the ball at the top of the box, and faked past a couple of defenders before unleashing a powerful strike which flew in at the near post.
Las Ăguilas dominated the rest of the encounter and, but for some heroic goalkeeping and wasteful finishing, couldâve been out of sight.
In the end AmĂ©rica found their second goal as the clock ticked into stoppage time, Henry MartĂnâs deflected effort looping high and over a helpless Nahuel GuzmĂĄn in the Tigres goal.
With this victory, América have now won their last five games and climb into the top four of Liga MX Clausura.
