Speaking ahead of Atlético Madrid’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Tuesday night in the Spanish capital, head coach Diego Simeone discussed Luis Suárez’s absence from the 22-man squad.

“This virus is strange. It is possible that tomorrow he tests negative and is fit. He has been training and wants to help the team… We will have to wait and see what happens and then inform you. I spoke to him yesterday and he felt good, wanting to be with the rest of the team. The most important thing is he is well. If he doesn’t play tomorrow he will play on Saturday.”

Suárez had been in fine form for Atlético before being ruled out while away on international duty with Uruguay, scoring five goals in his first six LaLiga appearances after joining from LaLiga rivals Barcelona in September.

Bayern come into the clash with a 100% record thus far in the competition, beating Diego Simeone’s side in a convincing 4-0 win in the first game between the sides in Munich. The home side are seven points off Hansi Flick’s team with five points from their first four games. Atlético will be hoping for a result on Tuesday night to extend their narrow advantage over Lokomotiv Moscow in third and Salzburg in fourth.
