Diego Simeone: 'Jan Oblak is the best goalkeeper in the world' | OneFootball

Diego Simeone has tipped Jan Oblak to win FIFA inaugural Yashin Award given to the world’s best goalkeeper after his club record-tying 95th LaLiga clean sheet in Atlético’s 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

Oblak has now drawn level with Abel Resino for most clean sheets at Atlético, though he has managed the task in an unbelievable 163 games compared to Resino’s 243.

Oblak has already earned nine clean sheets in Atlético’s first 13 games of the season, giving up just five goals so far.

“Oblak is the best goalkeeper in the world, no doubt about it,” Simeone boasted.

“He continues to improve and evolve every year, and he helps the team to shine.

“He shows that he is the best with his performances every day in training and then in games for the team.

“And I am sure he will be recognised with the new goalkeeper award from FIFA.”

Oblak will hope to continue his hot form on Tuesday when they travel to Alavés.
