Las Palmas have struggled to effectively replace García Pimienta since he left Las Palmas for Sevilla. Reports now indicate that Luis Carrión is set to be shown the door, with his replacement already chosen.

The man chosen is Diego Martínez, who was most recently manager of Olympiacos in Greece. The 43-year-old has been without a job since being replaced at the Greek club by former Sevilla boss José Luis Mendilibar.

In Spain, Martínez has experience within the academy at Sevilla, as well as Osasuna, Granada and most recently Espanyol for one season in 2022/23.

He spent the longest period of his career at the helm of Granada between 2018 and 2021, overseeing the club’s promotion to La Liga in his first season.

As per COPE, Martínez will be brought in with the goal of radically changing the team, which sits bottom of La Liga on three points, achieving only three draws so far this season.

The announcement of the change is expected to be made in the next few hours.
