Tactician Diego Martínez was on Monday questioned on the possibility of linking back up with La Liga outfit Sevilla.

Martínez, for his part, previously spent seven years of his coaching career on the books of Sevilla.

As much came between 2010 and 2017, when the 43-year-old took charge of the Nervionenses’ C team, B team, youth teams, and acted as an assistant at first-team level.

Martínez has since gone on to take on head coach roles at the likes of Osasuna, Granada and Espanyol, too.

He most recently held the reins at Greek heavyweights Olympiacos, but was sent on his way in December of last year.

Currently out of work, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of taking his managerial talents back to the aforementioned Sevilla was today put to the Spaniard.

The situation on the bench in Andalusia is of course altogether unclear at present, amid mounting speculation that Quique could be dismissed come the summer.

During an interview with Canal Sur (as cited by Mundo Deportivo), though, Martínez was keen to play links with his former employers down:

“I have been coaching for 24 years. I have gone through all the categories and to be able to train at the next level, I have had to advance with my team and maintain each other. It is much more than I could have thought of when I started training. Therefore, I do not I think about what is going to come next. I am very grateful, I feel very proud of what we have done so far. We want more, obviously, but I have never thought about the next step. I stay more with what we have experienced, that ‘what has to come will come’. Obviously the connection and ties with Seville and Granada are special.”
