Another talented Mexican player is now headed to Europe.
Late Thursday night, Real Betis and Club América confirmed that Diego Lainez has joined the club in a €12m deal, with América retaining 20 per cent of his sell-on value.
The deal will run until 2024.
“Club America would like to thank Diego for the commitment and dedication that he showed during his years at our club, for the happiness that he gave to our fan base and for fulfilling the dream of being a champion with this team,” the club wrote in a news release.
Lainez had an incredible 2018 Apertura campaign, scoring five goals in 15 matches while leading América to the Liga MX title with his dazzling skill down the wings.
Lainez earned his first two caps for Mexico in 2018 thanks to a number of eye-opening displays, including the 2018 Toulon Tournament, where he showcased his dribbling, speed, and technical ability.
Betis beat out Ajax and Lyon to his signature.
