Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos could be on his way out of the club this summer, according to the Telegraph.
Carlos’ time at Villa Park has been marred by injuries since his high-profile transfer from Sevilla in 2022, leading to questions about his long-term role.
His debut season was derailed by a severe Achilles tendon injury just two games into the season and upon his return, Carlos struggled to regain the form that had made him a standout performer in Spain.
While Unai Emery has publicly supported Carlos’ efforts to regain full fitness, there is an underlying sense of urgency for the Brazilian to prove his worth.
The upcoming summer transfer window could be pivotal for Carlos as he enters the penultimate year of his current contract.
Carlos has made 20 league starts this term but is currently below Pau Torres, Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa in the pecking order. It was no surprise to see him left out of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming Copa America.
Despite qualifying for the Champions League, Villa will reportedly need to offset new signings with sales as they prepare to return to Europe’s premier club competition courtesy of a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
The Villains are keen on landing Connor Gallagher from Chelsea and have also been linked with Atletico Madrid’s Mario Hermoso, who could be brought as in as a replacement for the departing Clement Lenglet.
