Pundit Graeme Souness was critical of Reds forward Roberto Firmino after Liverpool’s recent clash against Manchester United.
Against the Red Devils, Firmino started alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in Liverpool’s forward line.
Despite the fact that Firmino started the Premier League match at Anfield, Souness said that the Brazilian had no influence on the game.
Souness told Sky Sports Super Sunday: “For me looking at Liverpool, as a Liverpool supporter, and thinking where’s the difference between where they have been for the last three years and now, it’s the front three.
“The front three today for me, there was no sparkle or special moments.
“Firmino didn’t take part in the game a lot, Salah didn’t skip past Shaw once.
“The best chance fell to Firmino and he scuffs it. You’re inside the box with a clear sight of goal.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Firmino has not had a great 2020-21 season thus far. The forward has scored five goals and registered three assists in 26 appearances.
However, Firmino did not play poorly against Manchester United on Sunday night.
Firmino finished the match with a WhoScored player rating of 7.14, which highlights that he did play reasonably well against Manchester United.
The only thing that Firmino did not do against Manchester United was contribute to the scoreline.
The 29-year-old is certainly capable of scoring or creating a goal. In 270 appearances for the Reds, Firmino has found the back of the net 83 times and created 63 goals.
